About Us

Southwark Parent Carer Council (PCC)

  • Who are we?

We are the parent carer forum for Southwark. Each forum in every borough is part of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF).

As a group of parent carer volunteers, we are working to achieve excellent local services for our disabled children/young people aged 0-25 and their families.

By working with partners in Education, Health and Social Care, we want to make sure all parent carers and young people have a voice - and have a say in the development and provision of our services.

We are all volunteers but, like other parent carer forums, we receive a small yearly grant from the Department of Education, and, in the past, some administrative support from Southwark Council.
  • What we do

We represent the views of parent carers in discussions with Southwark Council and the NHS, and work on improving local services for our children and young people.

We are increasing our parent representation on local council boards - and by passing on information from parent carers, we can ensure the needs and wishes of our children and families are met.

Many of our members have been parent representatives on Southwark Council's Project Board and workstreams for the recent SEND reforms in education, health and social care. Find out more in SEND Reforms. We are continuing with some of these workstreams, and also regularly meeting the heads of services at Southwark Council to ensure there is parent participation and coproduction when decisions are made about services.

We run monthly parent carer coffee mornings, open to any parent carer, at Southwark Carers - see Events.

We publish a newsletter - sent by email and post and distributed widely - and also send out useful email information to parent carers. If you would like to receive these emails, please sign up here. Sign up now

Our active members meet every 6 weeks for a business meeting to plan upcoming PCC activities. We also provide training for parents to become active parent representatives.
